More than just books!

Most courses require textbooks and resource materials such as audio or video tapes and CD-ROMS that you may borrow from VLN. You’ll be asked to pay a refundable deposit when you register. Bring your books and materials back when you finish the course, or if you choose to withdraw, and your textbook deposit will be refunded.

Some courses offer optional equipment or resources which you may borrow for a reasonable deposit, such as a microscope for Biology 11 or video tapes for Physics 12. Other courses, such as Art and Biology, require kits that you will use up, and there is only a fee if you lose or damage them.

We strongly recommend that you obtain materials from VLN to ensure you have the correct publications and versions that match your course. If you decide to obtain your materials elsewhere, make sure you obtain all the materials you will need to complete the course. VLN will not loan you your choice of materials from the required list.

If you are missing any of your course materials, please contact Cynthia Benedict at cbenedict@vsb.bc.ca

Changes to Cost of Materials Policy

Effective immediately, module deposits for correspondence courses will no longer be charged.  Students who have previously paid module deposits will be refunded upon course completion or return of unused materials.  All students enrolled in correspondence must pay textbook deposits.

No book deposits will be charged for school age students taking online courses.

Exceptions are as follows:

  • All students leaving the country or province pay deposits for all materials in full.
  • Grade 8 and 9 full time students are still paying an all inclusive flat fee.
